    Hi,

I'm stuck in the "preparing automatic repair" loop after a recent update to Windows 10. This didn't occur immediately after the update but a couple of re-starts later. I can't get into the bios menu to change the boot order to boot from a recovery disk. According to the PC manufacturer documentation I should be able to do this via F2 on booting (Samsung Series-5 ultrabook np530u3c) but that doesn't work and I just alternate between the initial Samsung logo and the black screen, blue windows logo with Preparing Automatic Repair text and that is it. Numerous hard restarts have no effect and what I think is reasonably extensive searching for a solution doesn't produce anything that works.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Martin

    Hello,

Please try Esc or F12 keys. I believe you should be able to select the boot device with that.

Or if system is preparing for Automatic repair, is it performing the repair then? What happens next? If it says Automatic repair couldnt repair your PC, you can refer suggestions provided here:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

The official Microsoft solution to an endless 'Preparing Automatic Repair' loop is to refresh or reset the PC directly.

"Upon the 'Preparing automatic repair' window, press-and-hold Power button three times to forcefully shut down the machine. The system will enter boot repair page after 2-3 times of reboot, choose Troubleshoot, then go on to Refresh PC or Reset PC."

If we want to use recovery media to repair and could not boot into BIOS, I consider that hold F10 + press release power button or ESC button may be useful.

    Regards,

Thanks for the answer. I have tried the various F10, F2, ESC plus other combinations and with no joy. Also the repeated hard restarts don't change anything. The same thing is happening after a re-start (hard or otherwise). First I get a standard Samsung screen. Then some seconds later I get the preparing automatic repair window. Then it starts cycling between the two. Sometimes with more time at the second stage and sometimes less.

As I can't get into the boot repair options then I figured best bet was boot into bios and use recovery media. But I can't get into bios.

    Any other suggestions?

The automatic repair at one time (Windows 1511, 1607, 1703) could easily be fixed by Regback.

Unfortunately Microsoft did not maintain the automatic Regback.

On a regular basis we see end users that need this feature to restore the registry.

Please use Microsoft feedback hub to report your experience.

If you can boot to a windows 10 iso you may be able to perform a reset save files equivalent.

Another option is to backup files and perform a clean install.

Create tools that can be used to backup files and troubleshoot:

Find two flash drives that you can format (> or = 8 GB).

On a working computer create a bootable Windows 10 iso:

    Hi,

As you said, if we could not boot into BIOS to change boot order. It's difficult to repair with a media installation.

When we restart, could we boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8? If not, I'm afraid that we can only try to solve the problem of not entering the BIOS.

Firstly, I suggest that you contactManufacturer's support to ask how to enter BIOS.

Because the BIOS is controlled onmotherboard. So I consider that unplugBIOS battery or upgrade BIOS may be useful.
